Robert Nowland Green
1925 - 2020
January 21, 1925 - March 16, 2020 Robert "Bob" Nowland Green, M.D., 95, of Huntington Beach, California, passed away of natural causes in the comfort of his own home on March 16, 2020. "Dr. Bob" was born in Los Angeles on January 21, 1925 to Dr. Carl Green and Elsie Green (Large). He attended USC Medical School on a World War II accelerated program, and graduated in 1949. He was an Air Force Captain during the Korean War, before being Honorably Discharged. Beginning his practice as a general surgeon at Long Beach and Wilmington's Seaview Clinics, he also had privileges at Long Beach Memorial and St. Mary's Hospitals. It was during this period that he met his wife, Suzanne, a registered nurse. In his 60+ years of practicing medicine, Bob's warm and gentle bedside manner, and extensive knowledge of medicine, brought him love and thanks from 3 generations of patients. Bob loved a corny joke, a good history book, golfing, playing classical piano music, collecting stamps and coins, LEMONS, and his family. He could always be counted on to know the history of most any topic, and one of his most fascinating stories involved the 1937 Hindenburg airship explosion, which he witnessed from the Lakehurst Naval Air Station field as a boy accompanying his physician father. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Suzanne, and his daughters Robin Quirk of Stanton, CA, and Holly Badke (Fred) of Boise, ID, and his stepchildren, Wendy Nelson (James) of Huntington Beach, CA, Michael Cook (Mandy) of Fullerton, CA, and Lupe Diaz of Lancaster, CA, along with his grandchildren Heather, Steve, Andrew, Miranda, Trevor, Jonathan, John Alex, Jackie, Joseph, and Gilbert, and great-grandchildren Saskia, Leander, Luke and Amelia. In accordance with his wishes, Bob has donated his brain to UCI's medical research on the effects of aging, and has requested that there be no memorial service.
