Dr. Robert Nowland Green Obituary 1925-2020

Robert Nowland Green

1925 - 2020

Robert Nowland Green Obituary
January 21, 1925 - March 16, 2020 Robert "Bob" Nowland Green, M.D., 95, of Huntington Beach, California, passed away of natural causes in the comfort of his own home on March 16, 2020. "Dr. Bob" was born in Los Angeles on January 21, 1925 to Dr. Carl Green and Elsie Green (Large). He attended USC Medical School on a World War II accelerated program, and graduated in 1949. He was an Air Force Captain during the Korean War, before being Honorably Discharged. Beginning his practice as a general surgeon at Long Beach and Wilmington's Seaview Clinics, he also had privileges at Long Beach Memorial and St. Mary's Hospitals. It was during this period that he met his wife, Suzanne, a registered nurse. In his 60+ years of practicing medicine, Bob's warm and gentle bedside manner, and extensive knowledge of medicine, brought him love and thanks from 3 generations of patients. Bob loved a corny joke, a good history book, golfing, playing classical piano music, collecting stamps and coins, LEMONS, and his family. He could always be counted on to know the history of most any topic, and one of his most fascinating stories involved the 1937 Hindenburg airship explosion, which he witnessed from the Lakehurst Naval Air Station field as a boy accompanying his physician father. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Suzanne, and his daughters Robin Quirk of Stanton, CA, and Holly Badke (Fred) of Boise, ID, and his stepchildren, Wendy Nelson (James) of Huntington Beach, CA, Michael Cook (Mandy) of Fullerton, CA, and Lupe Diaz of Lancaster, CA, along with his grandchildren Heather, Steve, Andrew, Miranda, Trevor, Jonathan, John Alex, Jackie, Joseph, and Gilbert, and great-grandchildren Saskia, Leander, Luke and Amelia. In accordance with his wishes, Bob has donated his brain to UCI's medical research on the effects of aging, and has requested that there be no memorial service.

Orange County California free food pantries

Orange County California free food pantries.

Free emergency food pantries in the Orange County California region help thousands of families every month. People of all backgrounds and income levels have turned to a local soup kitchen, free food bank or pantry near them when they are faced with difficult times. The exact type of resources will vary by center, as well as the hours. It is recommended to call a center first, before stopping by. There is also a toll free referral number at the bottom of the page for more information, including in Spanish.
Many of the food pantries will offer individuals a pre-set package of free or low cost non-perishable groceries or canned goods, free hygiene supplies, toiletries or other goods depending upon availability. Some of the perishable items that may be available, include, but are not limited to fruits, breads, vegetables, dairy and meats. All items are based on availability of donations and the resources from the specific Orange County food pantry.
When available, special needs can be met. For example, baby food, diapers and baby supplies may also be provided to established food pantry clients in Orange County California. Senior citizens in the southern part of California are also a focus, and they can enroll into a Meals on Wheels service or receive dietary supplements from a food bank.
In addition, these locations are a great place to turn to for other support, especially when you are faced with an emergency. For example, may centers can help people apply for government and public programs such as CalFresh, WIC, or summer meals for your children. Or for more details on food programs, even learn about Feeding America backpack lunches for students.
The food banks as well as free pantries are often diverse in what they provide too. Other locations may distribute items such as clothing, Thanksgiving and Christmas meals, and personal hygiene items such as free feminine products. Almost all Orange County California food pantries provide information and referrals.
